Litany of Humility

The Litany of Humility

Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. - Matthew 5:3

Below is the prayer we prayed after the remarkable message yesterday from Byron and Rod. In so many ways this is the kind of prayer that opens the door to true friendship. That’s because true friendship requires so much humility. To ask for help, to be open to receiving it, to prioritize another human being over our own comfort, to face our fears - these are the sorts of things that make friendship possible.

Take some time with this prayer today and see where the Spirit leads.

From my drive to be superior to others, deliver me.

From putting my career before the people in my life, deliver me.

From the pains of withdrawing from my addiction, deliver me.

From distracting myself from life, deliver me.

From the allure of the world’s empty promises, deliver me.

From allowing my pride to supplant my love, deliver me.

From the dread of falling into decline and being forgotten, deliver me.
