Let the Poets Guide You
Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future
And time future contained in time past.
What might have been and what has been
Point to one end, which is always present.
- T.S. Elliot, The Four Quartets
We had the experience but missed the meaning.
- T.S. Elliot, The Four Quartets
If you don’t take the time to think about and analyze your life, you’ll never realize all the dots that are all connected.
- Beyoncé
The poets and artists often catch on to the deeper side of life, when most of the rest of us just walk on by. They can see through the veil of reality and make sense of what’s really real. Jesus laments over Jerusalem because the people were so distracted by surface realities that they couldn’t really see what was going on. As he said in Luke 19:44, “You did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
What are the experiences you’ve had, or keep having, that you keep missing the meaning of? What are the dots that you are failing to connect? What is Jesus saying to you about your past so that you can make sense of your present and step into your future? Ponder these things and let the poets guide you…
