Be alert at all times.
- Luke 21:34
Scripture uses the Greek word kairos for the word ‘time’ in this command. Kairos is the kind of time that is pregnant with meaning. It’s not the tick, tick, tick of chronos time that can be measured and regulated. Kairos is time plus experience - it’s the kind of time that makes memories. And Jesus wants us to be alert for all the kairos moments in our lives. He’s not saying he wants us anxiously watching each second tick by. That’s never been his approach. He’s very interested in us capturing kairos moments, however. Those are the God-moments.
How alert are you? What helps you be alert? Are you open to watching for God today?
