You're Invited to Take a Prayer Walk

If you’re not able to join us on Sunday for our annual beach day (full details in the digital handout available HERE), we’d invite you to use this short guide to take a prayer walk of your own, today or sometime this weekend. There’s a more traditional version, and a more playful version you could do on your own or with friends and family.

If you will be with us on Sunday, perhaps you’d like to pause here, share with God a few gratitudes or struggles that you’re holding, and wait to look at the guide with everyone at the beach.

Either way, may Creator bless you and keep you today - may Creator bring you peace.

Matt. 5:13-16 (which immediately follows the Beatitudes we’ve been reading together - perhaps these words of Jesus are also meant as blessing, over who you already are and are becoming…)

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Parent in heaven.”

Prayer Walk - Simple, Reflective Version

Just talk with God as you enjoy this time & space…

MERCIFUL * PEACEMAKERS * MEEK * POOR IN SPIRIT * MOURNING

PURE OF HEART * HUNGRY FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS * PERSECUTED

  • Which Beatitude feels most alive for you right now? Why?

  • “You are the salt of the earth.” In this beautiful space, it’s safe to ask yourself honestly - what special salt, zest, flavor or preserving power do you in all your complexity bring to the world? When have you felt yourself “being salty” in the best of ways recently?

  • “You are the light of the world,” reflecting the warm glow of Jesus himself. This morning, do you feel yourself connecting more deeply to light as truth and clarity or light as love and nurture? Where have you sensed God inviting you to receive light? How have you sensed God inviting you to share it?

Beach Prayer Hunt - Playful Version

Each time you find something on the list below, put your hands up like you’re taking a picture and say “click.” Then think about the question for that thing - share your thoughts with any walking partners you have with you.

Find something that…

🧂 reminds you of salt. What just makes life better?

💡 catches the light. Where have you noticed God's goodness lately?

🌊 moves like waves or wind. Where have you sensed God trying to get your attention lately?

❤️ reminds you of someone you love. Pray for that person.

BONUS: leave an encouraging message or drawing, etched in the dirt or written with chalk, for someone else to find.
