What if every day we had a Nativity Moment by Kelley Barton
“Every person we make feel welcome is a Nativity moment.”
This was spoken on Sunday (Dec 8th) by Rev. Dr. Joshual Lopez-Reyes.
I listened to the City Church Podcast this morning. I had gone for an early morning walk and found myself down, thinking about friends who have moved away and other friends who are too busy to spend time with me. Then I thought of friends who have recently had a child die and I told myself to buck up, it’s not that bad.
And yet the feeling lingered.
Later in the day, I started the podcast and what stood out was “Every person we make feel welcome is a Nativity moment.”
Once again, my inner self has been prodded from a City Church moment to take my sadness and turn it into action. That phrase, coupled with Brenna’s more recent comment about sending a text to people when they came to mind. It prompted me to text three people today.
These three are in the “getting to be friends” zone. The ones who moved away I have quite a bit of history with, so they knew me really well. I feel the need to replace them, but that takes time.
So for now, I’m going to remind myself that every time I make someone else feel welcome as a human, on this planet, it is a Nativity moment. I need more of those.
How about you?
