No Is a Complete Sentence

Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. - Exodus 20:9-10

Early on (as in, at the very beginning), God set limits. There were limits to day and night. Limits around water and land. And limits on working and not working.

It’s pretty clear that God is not only giving us permission to set limits, but is inviting us to do so with gusto. Another way to think about limits are the boundaries we set around ourselves (“I won’t eat past 9pm”) and around others (“If she raises her voice I will excuse myself from the conversation). As one of our favorite authors puts it:
