Living the Post-Resurrection Life
Christ is Risen!!!!!
Yesterday we looked at how the early church sorted out Jesus’s main purpose given their own context. It’s still the call of Christians today to do that work.
Jesus’s main teaching was to love God with mind, heart, soul and strength and to love neighbor as yourself. The early church played it out like this:
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. - Acts 2:42
So let’s map those the great commandment (love God) onto this verse;
Love with Heart: Fellowship (be open emotionally to others)
Love with Soul: Prayer (connecting directly to God)
Love with Mind: Teaching (expanding our understanding of God)
Love with Strength: Breaking of bread (an embodied embrace of God’s goodness)
Now let’s map the second commandment (love neighbor) on the church in Acts. This is how the neighbor loved worked itself out in the early church:
They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. - Acts 2:44
Do you see the pattern? Jesus taught two core things, and the earliest Christians took those things and sorted out how to make them work in their situations and setting - making them real and practical, not just ideas.
How might Jesus be speaking to you about this kind of resurrection life?
