Kairos

Mark 8: 29-30 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

As we think about questions and answers, the learning circle is a useful tool. In the passage we looked at on Sunday, Peter experiences a kairos moment when he clearly sees and states that Jesus is the Messiah. This is the first step in the learning circle – a moment where something occurs to us that hasn’t before, or we see things in a slightly different way.

What Chris and Greg encouraged us to do when we have kairos is to read it as an opportunity for spiritual growth. Kairos helps us see where we might have gotten things wrong or made false assumptions up until this point. When we train ourselves to pause and reflect (the second step of the learning circle), it creates space for us to go around the learning circle and grow spiritually.

Keep an eye out today and the rest of this week for kairos moments. Just recognizing them can be difficult sometimes. What kairos moments can you identify today?
