How Wide Is The Door

And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord Almighty and to entreat him. This is what the Lord Almighty says: “In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’”
- Zechariah 8:22-23

There are multiple prophecies like this one in the Old Testament (like Isaiah 66:18-21). God envisions a future where the doors are open wide for all kinds of people - including the enemies of Israel! - to come into the kingdom.

Sometimes Christians get a bit focused on the “narrow door” approach we were taught as kids - that it’s hard to get into heaven and we have to try really hard. In the passage we looked at last Sunday (Luke 13:22-30) we saw that the only ones who were going to have a hard time getting in were the people who trusted in their own goodness or their religious superiority to get in. That passage emphasized how people were going to come from east and west, north and south to enter the kingdom of God.

So how open are you not just to letting different people come into the kingdom, but actually helping them enter? Do you pray for others to enter the kingdom? Do you look for those who are spiritually hungry? Do you share your own spiritual journey? Talk with Jesus about what you perceive to be your personal openness to helping others enter the kingdom, and look for an opportunity today to do just that.
