God of Repair

Today we’re leaning in to the wisdom of our Cole Arthur Riley over at Black Liturgies. Pray this prayer slowly, thoughtfully. And take some time to do the breathing exercise at the end.

God of Repair,

Sometimes we are the problem. We confess that at times, we are willfully oblivious to the damage we cause as we move in the world. We hate to see ourselves as wounders, and go to great lengths to protect our self-concept and image.

Please place voices in our midst who will tell us the truth about whom we are hurting and when.

And may we meet them with discernment and curiosity instead of that defensiveness which turns accusation on another before looking down at our own stained hands.

Grant us the courage to make apology and repair for the unintentional and the unseen. Train us in stopping the blood before rushing to defend or justify our own intentions.

And may this birth true repair and space to dwell in the hidden complexities of every human heart. Heal the wounds made in the dark.

INHALE:

I honor the complexity

EXHALE:

I too, need mercy

INHALE:

Help me to see my part in the pain.

EXHALE:

I pause. I listen.
