Blessing the Pure in Heart
You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world. - Matthew 5:8, MSG
Jesus says there’s a blessing when we get our international and external worlds aligned. The blessing is that we get to see God at work.
It’s a lot easier to see God when we’re not play-acting in life. Our masks not only keep others at a distance, they keep God at a distance. As C.S. Lewis once asked, How can God meet us face to face till we have faces?
The pure in heart are different than the pure. The pure have their outsides all cleaned up. They are good at following the rules, behaving rightly, saying the right things, pleasing people. But the pure in heart often make a mess of things. They say what's really inside, and that can cause a lot of trouble. The pure in heart don’t have the same fear of social conventions or of looking good.
Have you ever noticed that when you let your real self out that it’s easier to see what God is up to in the world? Take a moment to reflect on that question.
