Afraid of Our Ideas of God

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
     - Genesis 3:8-10

This is the scene just after the man and woman ate the forbidden fruit. They hide from God. God looks for them. And when pressed about hiding, the man answered that he was afraid.

Before this, God and humankind were in perfect unity. Fear did not come between them, even though God was still the awesome Creator and people were part of the creation. But now, after the twisting lies of the serpent and the twisting experience of sinning, they bought into the lie that God was angry with them, that God was not for them, that they needed to get away from God.

How is your view of God twisted? What are the experiences that have twisted your view of God as wholly good? Ask God to recalibrate your mind and heart so that you can know and trust that goodness entirely.
